Introductory Post, Hist 694

My name is Stephanie Martinez and I am in my first year of graduate studies at George Mason, pursuing a MA degree in history. I’m especially interested in disability history, the history of racialized violence, and Mexican-American history. I am also enrolled in GMU’s digital public humanities certificate program. So far I have taken the intro class for the program, where my major project involved working with kepler.gl and mapping lynchings in central Texas.

I am interested in learning more mapping tools and online exhibit tools like Omeka. My interest leans primarily towards doing DH for the general public. This semester I’m excited to learn more about how to do DH in ways that keep this audience in mind. I’d like to learn about how approaches to DH should differ based on target audience.
